The Shattered Reflection

The darkness didn’t last. It was a violent, flickering transition—the strobe lights of a passing ambulance cutting through the rain like a jagged blade.

When the light returned, the world had tilted. The “Untouchable” woman, whose name the tabloids whispered as Evelyn Vance, wasn’t looking at the crowd anymore. She wasn’t even looking at the car. She was staring into the eyes of the boy as if looking into a mirror that showed her a ghost.

The Crack in the Armor

Her hand, manicured and trembling, reached out. Not to strike, but to touch the worn edges of the photograph.

“That photo…” she whispered, her voice stripped of its icy authority. “That photo was taken in a room that doesn’t exist anymore. How do you have this?”

The boy didn’t answer with words. Instead, he pulled back his tattered sleeve. On his forearm was a faint, jagged scar in the shape of a crescent moon. Evelyn gasped, her knees hitting the wet pavement. She had the exact same mark, hidden beneath a diamond-encrusted watch.

A Shadow in the Crowd

As the crowd pressed closer, filming every second of the breakdown, a figure in a heavy gray trench coat stepped out from the shadows of a nearby alley. He didn’t have a phone out. He had a radio.

“Package identified,” the man murmured into his collar. “The reunion is happening ahead of schedule. Initiate the ‘Lazarus’ protocol. We cannot let her remember the rest.”

The Revelation

Evelyn looked up at the boy, tears finally carving paths through her expensive makeup. “I didn’t leave you,” she choked out. “They told me… they told me the fire took everyone. They gave me a new life. They gave me everything to make me forget.”

The boy’s expression shifted from rage to a terrifying, cold pity.

“They didn’t make you forget, Evelyn,” the boy said, his voice dropping to a whisper that only she could hear. “They traded me for your crown. And the person who signed the papers… is standing right behind you.”

Evelyn froze. She turned slowly, her eyes locking onto the man stepping out of the sleek black SUV that had just pulled up. It was her husband. The man the world called a saint.

He wasn’t smiling.

The secrets are only beginning to bleed out. If you think you know who the villain is, you’re only looking at the surface.

  • Who is the “Gray Man” in the alley?

  • What is the ‘Lazarus’ protocol?

  • And why does the boy have a digital tracker blinking under his skin?

Stay tuned for Part 3: The Price of the Throne.

How do you want the next chapter to unfold—should we dive into Evelyn’s hidden past, or follow the mysterious man in the gray coat?
